Indignation- you can here it in the arguments offered by Korach in the midrashic rendition of the debate. But there is indignation when you are repulsed by an event or an action. But there is the indignation that is so evident here, that of a middle school student who is arguing for the sake of arguing, knows that there is no merit in the side being proposed and just cannot admit that he is wrong.

מדרש תנחומא (ורשא) פרשת קרח סימן ב

(במדבר פרק טז:א) "וַיִּקַּח קֹרַח בֶּן יִצְהָר בֶּן קְהָת בֶּן לֵוִי וְדָתָן וַאֲבִירָם בְּנֵי אֱלִיאָב וְאוֹן בֶּן פֶּלֶת בְּנֵי רְאוּבֵן"

“And Korach, the son of Yizhar, the son of Kehat, the son of Levi, with Dathan and Aviram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Pelet, sons of Reuben”

מה כתיב למעלה מן הענין?(במדבר טו:לח) "דַּבֵּר אֶל בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְאָמַרְתָּ אֲלֵהֶם וְעָשׂוּ לָהֶם צִיצִת עַל כַּנְפֵי בִגְדֵיהֶם לְדֹרֹתָם וְנָתְנוּ עַל צִיצִת הַכָּנָף פְּתִיל תְּכֵלֶת"
קפץ קרח ואמר למשה, 'אתה אומר "וְנָתְנוּ עַל צִיצִת הַכָּנָף פְּתִיל תְּכֵלֶת"; טלית שכולה תכלת מה היא שיהא פטורה מן צצית?!'
אמר לו משה, 'חייבת בצצית'.
אמר לו קרח, 'טלית שכולה תכלת אינה פוטרת עצמה, וארבעה חוטין פוטר אותה?!
בית מלא ספרים מהו שתהא פטורה מן המזוזה?!'
אמר לו, 'חייבת במזוזה'
אמר לו, 'כל התורה כולה רע"ח(278) פרשיות שיש בה, כולן אין פוטרות את הבית! ושתי פרשיות שבמזוזה פוטרות את הבית?!

What is written above relating to this story?
“Speak unto the children of Israel, and say to them and they will make themselves fringes throughout their generations in the corners of their garments, and that they put with the fringe of each corner a thread of azure blue.”
Korach jumped and said to Moshe, ‘You say “and that they put with the fringe of each corner a thread of azure blue; A garment that is totally of the azure blue what is the law that it should be exempt from the fringes?
Moshe said to him, ‘it requires the fringes’
Korach responded, ‘a garment that is totally of the Azure does not fulfill the requirement but the four strings do?!
What about a house filled with scrolls? Would that be exempt from having the mezuzah (parchment scroll) on the wall?
Moshe responded, ‘ it requires a mezuzah’
Korach said to him, the entire Torah consists of 278 portions that are in it, and they do not exempt the house from the commandment to have a mezuzah?! The parchment has only two portions and it fulfills the obligation?!

אמר לו, 'דברים אלו לא נצטוית עליהם, ומלבך אתה בודאם. הדא הוא דכתיב "וַיִּקַּח קֹרַח"
"וַיִּקַּח קֹרַח" אין "וַיִּקַּח" אלא לשון פליגה, שלבו לקחו כענין שנאמר (איוב טו:יב) "מַה יִּקָּחֲךָ לִבֶּךָ וּמַה יִּרְזְמוּן עֵינֶיךָ"

Korach said, ‘you were not commanded about these things, this all comes from your heart’
That is what is written, “And Korach took”. The language of “took” indicates petty argumentation and splitting, that his heart took him, as it says “Why does your heart carry you away? And why do your eyes wink?”

הוא שמשה אומר להם (במדבר טז:ט) הַמְעַט מִכֶּם כִּי הִבְדִּיל אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶתְכֶם מֵעֲדַת יִשְׂרָאֵל לְהַקְרִיב אֶתְכֶם אֵלָיו לַעֲבֹד אֶת עֲבֹדַת מִשְׁכַּן יְדֹוָד וְלַעֲמֹד לִפְנֵי הָעֵדָה לְשָׁרְתָם"
כל אותו הענין עד (במדבר טז:כט) "אִם כְּמוֹת כָּל הָאָדָם יְמֻתוּן אֵלֶּה וּפְקֻדַּת כָּל הָאָדָם יִפָּקֵד עֲלֵיהֶם לֹא יְדֹוָד שְׁלָחָנִי "

That is what Moshe said to them, “is it a small thing for you, that the God of Israel separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to Himself, to do the service of the tabernacle of the Lord, and to stand before the congregation to minister unto them; all this until “If these men die the common death of all men, and be visited after the visitation of all men, then the Lord has not sent Me”

אמרו חכמינו זכרונם לברכה: חכם גדול היה קרח ומטועני הארון היה שנאמר (במדבר ז:ט) "וְלִבְנֵי קְהָת לֹא נָתָן כִּי עֲבֹדַת הַקֹּדֶשׁ עֲלֵהֶם בַּכָּתֵף יִשָּׂאוּ"

The Sages of blessed memory said, Korach was a very smart and great man, and he was one of the bearers of the Ark. As it says, “But to the sons of Kehat he gave no work, because the service of the holy things belonged unto them: they bore them upon their shoulders.
